Emory’s Sendel, Tufts’ Fournier Earn Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III National Hitter, Pitcher Of Week Honors

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Emory University’s Hannah Sendel and Allyson Fournier of Tufts University have been selected as the Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III National Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively.


Sendel, a junior second baseman from Greenwood Village, Colo., was 14-for-26 (.538) with two doubles, seven homers, nine walks and 16 runs batted in last week for the 10th-ranked (18-2) Eagles, who earned a share of the University Athletic Association title with Washington (Mo.) University by going 8-2 in conference play. She had two homers in a victory over New York University and three in a win over Case Reserve.

Meanwhile, Fournier, the co-Most Outstanding Player of the 2014 NCAA Championship for two-time reigning titlist Tufts, pitched a six-inning no-hitter in the (8-0) Jumbos’ season opener on Saturday against Wittenberg. The senior right-hander from South Windsor, Conn., recorded 15 strikeouts in that game and went 3-0 for the week, with two shutouts, one hit allowed, no runs, four walks and 31 strikeouts over 12.2 innings. The no-hitter was the 11th of her career at top-ranked Tufts and she earned a win in relief against the University of New England, allowing no hits and collecting four strikeouts in 1.2 innings. She also tossed a one-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts against Western Connecticut State.

Nazareth senior left-hander Nicole Bayona was 3-1 for the week with a 0.25 ERA, one earned run and 17 strikeouts in 28 innings … Averett junior shortstop Taylor Dix hit .706 (12-for-17) with six doubles, four walks and six RBI in a 6-0 run for her team. … SUNY Canton freshman infielder Kaleigh Foran was 14-for-27 (.519) with five multi-hit games, including three three-hit games. … Worcester Polytechnic Institute sophomore third baseman Kristin Gallagher hit .591 (13-for-22) with five multi-hit games and was flawless in 17 chances in the field. … Emory & Henry freshman third baseman Caley Hodge was 8-for-15 (.533) with five homers and 14 RBI. She homered in four straight games, including twice in a contest against Elms. … Lycoming senior right-hander Caroline Lapano was 3-0 for the week with a first career no-hitter (five innings, three strikeouts) against Principia and four innings of two-hit ball against Hilbert. … Hardin-Simmons junior first baseman Kara LeLeux hit .667 (8-for-12) and used three doubles and a homer to amass 14 total bases for the week. She also collected 21 putouts in a perfect defensive week. … Lycoming senior outfielder Nikki Marianelli batted .538 with four multi-hit games, including a 4-for-4 day with two doubles and a triple against LaRoche. … Southwestern (Texas) freshman outfielder Sydney Oorlog was 11-for-18 (.611) with two triples, four steals in five attempts and nine RBI over six games. … Franklin freshman left-hander Olivia Paszek was 2-0 for the week with an 1.08 ERA, eight hits, two earned runs and two walks allowed and nine strikeouts over 13 innings. … Washington (Mo.) right-hander Annie Pitkin followed up two straight National Pitcher of the Week honors with a 5-1 record, 1.45 ERA, five complete games, a save, 12 walks and 48 strikeouts in 43.1 innings as her team went 8-2 to finish as co-champs of the UAA. Wins over nationally ranked Emory and Rochester and her lone loss was to Emory. … Ithaca junior catcher Kelly Robichaud hit .364 (8-for-22) with three doubles, two homers and five RBI. … Louisiana College freshman pitcher Savannah Settle allowed two earned runs and four hits in a 2-0 week, with two complete games, a shutout, no walks and 21 strikeouts in 12 innings.
