Mission Viejo (Calif.) Continues To Hold Top Spot In USA Today Sports/NFCA High School Super 25

LOUISVILLE, Ky.- Mission Viejo (Calif.) defeated Newbury Park (Calif.) 12-2 in the opening round of the California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section playoffs. The Diablos face Sunny Hills (Fullerton, Calif.) in the quarterfinals today.

Several of last week’s top teams suffered losses this past week, including No. 2 Alexander Central (Taylorsville, N.C.) that saw its 95-game win streak come to an end with a 10-5 loss to North Davison (Welcome, N.C.). Alexander Central defeated North Davidson in last year’s NCHSAA 4-A girl’s softball championship winning the best-of three series 2-0. The North Carolina playoffs had another upset as last week’s No. 7, Cape Fear (Fayetteville, N.C.) fell 2-1 to DH Conley (Greenville, N.C.) 2-1.

The USA Today Sports/NFCA High School Super 25 will be released every Thursday through June 11.

State rankings submitted by NFCA member coaches are used to help compile the USA Today Sports/NFCA High School Super 25.  Records for this week’s poll include all games played through May 25.
