Olson, Marinesi claim Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III National Pitcher, Player of Week honors

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Coe College’s Alyssa Olson and Kendall Marinesi of California Lutheran University claimed Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III National Pitcher and Player of the Week honors on Wednesday.

Senior right-hander Olson went 5-0 with a 0.50 earned-run average last week, allowing just four runs while striking out 50 over 28 innings in the circle. The Cedar Rapids, Iowa, native gives the Kohawks their second straight national honoree, after teammate Kelsey Hora scored Player of the Week honors last Wednesday.

Marinesi, meanwhile, compiled a monster week for the Regals, driving in 40 percent of her team’s runs, while batting .565 with four doubles, two triples, five homers and 18 RBI. The junior third baseman hit a grand slam in a 16-10 victory over Hiram last Monday, and was solid in the field with eight putouts and 19 assists for the week.

Simmons sophomore catcher Christie Bott was 7-for-12 (.583) with three runs, two doubles and six RBI, while throwing out two of the three baserunners that attempted to steal last week. …  Muhlenberg freshman pitcher Cora Bridgers went 4-0 with a save and 0.24 ERA in five appearances, allowing 12 hits and fanning 37 over 29 innings of work. … Saint Joseph’s (Brooklyn) freshman shortstop Alexis Buchanan hit .500 (9-for-18) with six runs, a stolen base and two RBI. … Birmingham-Southern senior pitcher/utility player Haley Crumpton tossed two shutouts and had a save in three appearances. She pitched 14 scoreless innings and struck out 22 batters, and helped herself at the plate with a .444 average and two doubles. … East Texas Baptist freshman shortstop Hannah Garcia scored seven of the nine times she reached base, compiling a .462 average with two doubles, three walks and three steals. … John Carroll freshman left fielder Emma Gurley was 10-for-21 (.489) with six walks, four doubles, a homer and three steals. … Muskingum senior center fielder Krissy Hughes batted .576 (19-for-33) with 16 runs, four doubles, a triple, two homers, eight walks, eight RBI and 12 steals in a busy 10-game week. … Alverno senior second baseman Carina Jimenez was 15-for-29 (.517) with 10 runs, two doubles, a homer and 16 RBI, and was flawless in the field (18 putouts and 17 assists). … Coe senior shortstop Haley Jones hit .593 (16-for-27) with 17 runs, five doubles, three triples, a homer and seven steals. … East Texas Baptist freshman pitcher Beatriz Lara scored three more wins to remain unbeaten (11-0) and tossed three-hit and four-hit shutouts, but had her 40-inning scoreless end in a victory over Howard Payne. … Birmingham-Southern senior first baseman Savannah Lee hit .643 with four homers in five games, two doubles and 13 RBI. … Moravian sophomore pitcher Paige Lesher went 4-0 with an 1.66 ERA and two complete games, including a shutout. … Wesley sophomore pitcher Dori Loukopoulos went 2-1 with a 0.88 ERA, two walks and 11 strikeouts. She also batted .467 with two runs and a triple. … George Fox junior outfielder Allison Meyer went 6-for-11 (.545) with two doubles, a homer and eight RBI. … Wesley senior utility player Ashley Royer hit .526 with three doubles, three walks and five RBI. …  Moravian freshman pitcher/utility player Alexandria Scheeler hit .538 with two runs, three doubles, a triple and five RBI, in addition to going 2-0 over five appearances in the circle. … Pacific (Ore.) sophomore catcher Montana Vaught went 10-for-14 (.714) with eight runs, four doubles, two homers and 11 RBI in a four-game Northwest Conference sweep of Puget Sound.

Winners are selected by the NFCA Division III Top 25 Committee, which has a representative for each of the eight NCAA regions.
