Tory MPP Jim Wilson Steps Down From Ontario Cabinet For Addiction Treatment

TORONTO — Ontario Progressive Conservative legislator Jim Wilson is resigning from cabinet and the Tory caucus “to seek treatment for addiction issues.”

In a statement Friday evening, a spokesman for Premier Doug Ford says Wilson has resigned as the minister of economic development, job creation and trade “effective immediately.”

Simon Jefferies says Government House Leader Todd Smith will take over Wilson’s portfolio in the interim.

First elected to the legislature in 1990, Wilson represents the riding of Simcoe-Grey on Georgian Bay.

More coming.
