Vermeulen top of Springbok injury concerns ahead of series-deciding third Test

DUANE VERMEULEN IS is among South Africa’s injury concerns that may be forced to sit out of ahead of the decisive third Test against Ireland on Saturday after Pat Lambie was ruled out due to concussion.

The Springboks have confirmed that the out-half is not ready to return as he recovers from blow he took in a collision with CJ Stander during the first Test, which resulted in the Ireland flanker being shown a red card.

Number eights Duane Vermeulen and Warren Whiteley are nursing elbow and shoulder injuries respectively, while prop Trevor Nyakane sustained a knock on the ankle.

Lood de Jager will be assessed later in the week as the lock receives treatment for a calf strain which kept him out of the 32-26 victory over Ireland in Johannesburg on Saturday.

It is all to play for in Port Elizabeth this weekend, with Ireland having won the first Test in Cape Town 26-20 despite Stander’s dismissal.
