Baxter backs SANZAAR process

The silence over Super Rugby’s future has been a frustrating development for fans, players and franchises, but former Wallabies prop Al Baxter says patience is needed rather than speculation.

Baxter was interviewed at Saturday’s Waratahs vs Brumbies game, in a segment that aired on Tuesday’s Kick and Chase on Fox Sports.

“They need to make sure everything’s in place and everything’s right and everything’s sorted before they make an announcement,” he said.

“To have no announcement is far better than to have the wrong announcement out there.”

Waratahs lock and RUPA president Dean Mumm said on Tuesday the ongoing speculation about Super Rugby’s future was not helpful for anyone.

“I think a frustrating element is there’s a lack of consultation from the players in it. I think you’d love to have a say in it,” he said.

“We understand why we don’t and the situation and the politics behind it.

“As a playing group, we’re thoroughly behind five teams and ensuring that everyone that plays in Australia gets the greatest opportunity to play at a terrific level that is Super Rugby.

“I think this period of limbo is frustrating, I think it would be nice to know what’s going on and to get some communication about that.

“I think everyone, you guys included, would perhaps be quite keen on that.”
