The Paris Saint-Germain forward’s incredible speed drove the French icon to song in a hilarious Instagram post following victory over Argentina
Eric Cantona has paid tribute to new France hero Kylian Mbappe as only he can, with a unique rendition of Andrew Lloyd Webber classic ‘Don’t Cry for me, Argentina’.
Mbappe wrote his way into World Cup history with a brilliant performance to put Argentina to the sword in a vintage last 16 clash.
The Paris Saint-Germain teenager scored two goals and also won a penalty converted by Antoine Griezmann in a 4-3 win.
That victory sent France to the quarters, where another Rioplatense obstacle in the shape of Uruguay stands in the way of Didier Deschamps’ men and the last four.
But, for former Les Bleus and Manchester United forward Cantona, Mbappe is already a star worthy of a hilarious tribute, composed to the melody of Evita’s signature songs.
“Don’t cry 4-3 Argentina!” the charismatic Frenchman bellowed in a video posted on Instagram, as he referred to Mbappe’s now-famous speed: “The truth is that he is faster than you.
“Running through the field, you could not catch him, you tried your hardest, he kept his distance.”
And there was no mistaking the message of the song, as Cantona signed off by simply stating: “Kylian Mbappe is amazing!”
Mbappe and France will be back in action on Friday against the Celeste, with the likes of Diego Godin and Jose Maria Gimenez tasked with stopping the in-form speedster.
