About 20 years ago, designer Url Pickens traded the backstreets of Chicago for stylish Paris. Now he is teaming up with UK’s denim label Lee Cooper. Pickens is a former employee of artisan fashion designer Jean Charles de Castelbajac, who also collaborated with the British jeans brand. Pickens’ first collection is a mix of bohemian dreamy rock inspired by 70s and 80s Chicago music and contemporary soul as illustrated by the logo, a stylized Afro.
The collection is an ode to the curve of a woman and offers a selection of structured pieces, fitted tops and box jackets, high waist trousers, hip huggers, culottes, mini-skirts and a fringed jumpsuit, in line with the iconic 1970s denim silhouette. The key designs have been strongly influenced by Lee Cooper’s archives and modernized with new stretch fabrics and light weight denims in tones of sand, sky blue, oil black, cloudy grey. The collection also includes tops and a gorgeous floor length dress cut in a luxurious soft grey silk jersey. Simply designed with some feminine details, their sexy shapes perfectly accompany the denim pieces. The Url Pickens line is sponsored by Italdenim.
“The pieces have been created to show our crafts in intimate ways, it is the results of 100 years of denim knowledge from Lee Cooper and my 23 years of high-end fashion. The support of Lee Cooper has given me the freedom to be subtle and transparent, along with the confidence that the collection will develop over time,” says Pickens.
Lee Cooper is the third leading brand of jeans in France and in the UK and the second leading brand in Belgium. Lee Cooper is headquartered in London and has a worldwide presence through its licensee network with operations in over 70 countries.
