When US Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour doles out advice, the rest of us stop and listen. The highly successful and feared doyenne of fashion has run the magazine for almost 20 years and has been responsible for the rise and rise of some highly respected designers.
In order to maintain the standards of the magazine, Wintour adheres to three commandments. Number one is, “Aim high -very high. We know you come to Vogue to find out that platforms and wide belts are back, but you expect a few surprises, too.
“Have fun,” she adds. “This can mean sending the hip-hop star Pharrel Williams to Rio with Karolina Kurkova for a swimsuit story, or capturing a very pregnant Melania Trump stepping out of the Trump jet in a gold bikini.”
Finally, she recommends keeping one’s finger on the pulse. “Keep your influence by exercising it,” she says. Her involvement in promoting some of fashion’s young, fresh talent is certainly her way to control the direction contemporary fashion takes.
