LOS ANGELES – Six people were shot at a downtown warehouse party early Sunday morning, with one of the victims in critical condition, police said. All six of the victims, three men and three women, are in their late teens or early 20s, said Officer Mike Lopez of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Media Relations Section.
The shooter remains at large.
A fight broke out at the party, and a lone gunman pulled out a handgun and fired several shots, Lopez said. The shooting occurred about 1:15 a.m. in an industrial neighborhood in the 1100 block of 11th Street, he said.
As the gunfire rang out, the crowd scattered.
James Mahomes told the Los Angeles Times he was lying under a tarp nearby when he heard gunshots and people screaming, “Go! Go! Go!”
“They were saying, ‘Open the gate! Open the door!'” he said.
Police did not immediately release a suspect description. NBC footage from the scene shows a huge crowd milling around paramedics and police in the aftermath of the shooting.
