One of the biggest new wrestlers on the independent circuit today is MMA star turned professional wrestler Matt Riddle. Riddle has proven that he has the look, charisma, and talent that WWE would be foolish to not sign as soon as possible, but they have not done so as of yet. However, that may change very soon as Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer believes that he is currently speaking with WWE about signing a contract. Meltzer believes that Riddle is having discussions with the company about working there very soon.
Matt Riddle currently works for WWN, and Revolution Pro has granted him access recently to begin working matches with New Japan Pro Wrestling star Tomohiro Ishii. This is apparently because New Japan Pro Wrestling is also looking to get Riddle signed to a contract soon. WWE has apparently had the former UFC fighter on their radar for a while now, so an announcement regarding his signing could be made very soon in order to steal him away from the Japanese promotion. Riddle once had a WWE tryout back in 2015, but WWE passed on him, instead helping him work some shows in Evolve Wrestling. Matt Riddle has had some issues with marijuana, which ultimately helped end his career in MMA, though it is unknown if WWE has any issues with that.
Matt is not just any other indy wrestler that WWE could be looking to sign, he’s a real standout that has only been an active professional wrestler since 2014. He won the awards for Rookie of the Year and Most Improved in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Awards for 2016. Riddle was trained by Sean Waltman when he decided to get into pro wrestling, which is a good sign knowing Waltman’s relationship with Triple H. Riddle is a hot commodity right now since NJPW and WWE both want to have him for themselves, but he seems like a nice fit for WWE. Riddle is 31-years-old, and is currently the inaugural WWN Champion.
