Vice President Pence will head to Georgia to campaign for Republican congressional hopeful Karen Handel as she sprints toward the finish line in the state’s pivotal special election.
The White House announced that Pence will travel on Friday to a Dobbins Air Force Base in Marietta, where he will meet with service members, before heading to an event for Handel.
Handel’s campaign did not immediately return a request for comment about the nature of the event where Pence will speak.

Democrats have framed the election on June 20 as a referendum on President Trump’s first few months in office, so Pence’s appearance shows the White House’s attempt to lend a hand and push back.
While the suburban Atlanta seat has historically been held by Republicans, Democrat Jon Ossoff fell just short of winning the seat in April’s primary amid a divided Republican field, leading to a runoff between Ossoff and Handel.
