Hall of Famer Harley Race and Nick Aldis on the Importance of the NWA World Title

A new edition of the 10 Pounds of Gold series has premiered on YouTube and in it, NWA World champion Nick Aldis sat down with eight-time world champion and WWE Hall of Famer Harley Race.

The two men talked at a live event, where Aldis asked Harley about the importance of the NWA World Championship, as well as the company’s efforts to elevate the title back to the prestigious level it once enjoyed.

“It’s all great, no matter how you frame it. It comes out to where if you were lucky enough to have held it, it’s d***dable good. You spend two thirds of your life trying to get into that position and then boom, you’re in it and everything’s rolling great.”

The NWA has undergone something of a resurgence over the past couple of years thanks to owner Billy Corgan. Corgan wants to bring back some of the magic that once surrounded the NWA and the best way to do that is to reemphasize the importance of the world title.

But what did Harley think of his run as the man on top of the NWA?

“Pretty much just the wrestling world itself, I didn’t throw myself out and say I was the one in line. You just kind of take what was there and went the best way you could with it.”

Aldis also spoke about what Race means to him and how he incorporates his admiration of the legend into his current pro wrestling career.

“I would say in most situations, what would Harley do or what would Ric Flair do? It’s ingrained in all my decision making processes, always, because I think to myself, if Harley were here now, what would he say about this or how would Harley feel about the way I was conducting myself?

News of Harley’s lung cancer hit the internet over the past two weeks and was initially reported as terminal. However that is not the case and Race is surely dealing with his prognosis one day at a time.
