As noted, WWE star Paige, who recently returned to WWE TV to lead the Absolution group on Raw, suffered an injury at the hands of Sasha Banks at a December 28th, 2017 WWE Raw live event.
According to PWInsider.com, the injury has resulted in WWE officials informing Paige that her in-ring career is finished and she will not be cleared to return to the ring, as her neck issues are now similar to those of Edge, who was also forced to retire early back in 2011. Paige’s injury was at first thought to be merely a stinger, but after further testing, WWE officials decided that the injury was serious enough to decide that the 25-year-old would not be able to return to in-ring action.
The injury took place during a six-woman tag team match in Long Island, New York, during which the Absolution leader teamed up with Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose and faced Sasha Banks, Bayley and Mickie James. After Paige was hit with a stiff double leg kick from Banks, she hit the mat and was unable to get back up. The referee then stopped the match, and a stretcher was brought out to assist Paige to the back. She did not use the equipment, however, and was able to leave the ring and exit to the back on her own.
Earlier today, Paige posted the following on Instagram, referring to a “setback”, however it remains unclear as to what the WWE Raw star was referring. The PWInsider report notes Paige was informed on Monday that WWE would not clear her to return to the ring, so it appears as if she has known of the decision since then:
The comeback is always stronger than the setback ❤️ @wwe
