L’Équipe report today that Inter defender Milan Škriniar offered to lower his signing-on fee with Paris Saint-Germain in order to facilitate a move on deadline day, to no avail.
The Slovakian defender has an agreement in place to join the Ligue 1 leaders this summer, having turned down the Nerazzurri’s contract renewal offers. The Parisians were looking to bring the move forward in the final week of the January window, but were unable to meet Inter’s demands in the face of restrictions imposed on them after breaking FFP rules.
PSG had seen their €10m bid turned down last week, with Inter holding out for €20m including bonuses, but a second offer never came – despite club president Nasser Al Khelaifi travelling to Italy to try to close out a deal. The Serie A side were also unable to secure the arrival of Merih Demiral from Atalanta, with the Turkish centre-back having been identified as the prospective replacement for Škriniar. The former Sampdoria man, who has been in Lombardy for the last five and a half seasons, was notably a PSG target this summer, but the club were unwilling Inter’s high demands.
