WEST LAFAYETTE, IN — Purdue University students are coming together to stand against a comedian accused of sexually harassing a student leader in front of thousands of people during the recent annual Boiler Gold Rush event. USA Today reported during comedian Andy Gross’ set, he called the female up on stage to be a volunteer before things took a turn. Students and the school are speaking out about the ventriloquist and illusionist’s reported inappropriate actions.
One of the new students in attendance at the incoming freshmen event was Andora Fess, who said Gross made the woman stand very close to him while making a joke about giving him an erection, before the two stood back-to-back and Gross made her touch his upper thigh. In a video clip of the incident Gross jokes that the two are standing “cheek to cheek.”
After audience members started leaving before the end of what many called an “unfunny” and “inappropriate” show, USA Today reported a university representative took the stage, saying the performance does not represent Purdue and its values, according to Fess.
“We will not work with this comedian again and are proud of our students who are standing up and voicing their concerns about the performance,” the university said, according to USA Today.
Students are also making their own statement by creating the hashtag #AndyGrossIsGross and posting their thoughts on social media. In addition to asking the university to take action, students and others in attendance have been tweeting “The Tonight Show” host Jimmy Fallon to cancel an upcoming scheduled segment with Gross.
@jimmyfallon inviting a guest like Andy Gross onto your show who just went in front of the entire Purdue freshmen class and staff asking females to touch his leg, making jokes about wanting to have them touch him, and “the voice in his pants” is disgusting. #andygrossisgross

If anyone saw the show at Purdue tonight, I hope that you can join me in boycotting Andy gross. We need to recognize sexual harassment for what it is and not let it go unpunished. No means no no matter where you are and who is watching. #AndyGrossIsGross
