Update on Rey Mysterio and Paige, & Jerry Lawler at Battleground

As reported earlier in the week, Rey Mysterio is going to be a free agent following the ending of season 3 of Lucha Underground. With no word on a fourth season, Rey Mysterio has been negotiating with both WWE and GFW to join either of those companies. Mysterio met with GFW Superstar Konnan in Nashville recently, and Konnan even released a photo on Instagram with himself, WWE’s R-Truth, and an unmasked Rey Mysterio. PWInsider claims that Mysterio has a contract with GFW in his possession. It’s worth noting that GFW has working relationships with multiple lucha libre promotions. Although, Raw was also in Nashville this week and it’s possible that he met with both companies.
A new report from Pro Wrestling Unlimited may have provided some information on currently inactive WWE Superstar Paige. Paige has been in the news for over a year due to some controversies involving both her and her boyfriend Alberto El Patron. As far as why WWE has not released Paige yet due to all of the negative attention she has been receiving, the company is still tied to her family and they have the upcoming Fighting With my Family biopic film coming out soon. The company does not want any mainstream attention that the movie gets to follow Paige into another wrestling promotion. No release date for the movie has been released yet.
It appears that Jerry “The King” Lawler will be returning in a guest role for the upcoming Battleground pay-per-view this Sunday. Lawler has gone from an active commentator to one who is only used sparingly. This would be Lawler’s first appearance for WWE since he returned to call the Nikki Bella & John Cena vs Maryse & The Miz match at Wrestlemania earlier this year. Lawler took to Twitter to confirm that he will be at the pay-per-view during the pre-show and that he will also be appearing alongside Renee Young on Talking Smack immediately after the show ends. The Battleground show will be taking place this Sunday with Jinder Mahal facing Randy Orton in a Punjabi Prison match to headline the show.
