New Details on Mauro Ranallo’s New NXT Contract With WWE

Mauro Ranallo was billed as “The Voice of Smackdown” just earlier this year, but that was before he missed a few shows before never showing up on the show ever again. Ranallo was seemingly finished working with WWE after he departed from the company due to controversial circumstances. If rumors are to be believed, Ranallo, who has a long history with bipolar disorder that he has been very public about, decided to leave after fellow Smackdown announcer JBL bullied him week after week. Fans have been calling for the latter’s termination ever since by using #FireJBL, but the former world champion turned announcer is still on the show. Fans were shocked to hear this past Thursday that Ranallo is actually staying with the company.
Ranallo has decided to re-sign with the company, he will be calling the action on NXT each Wednesday night. Wrestlingnewsworld.com reports that the contract is for two years, and that he will be able to continue his announcing gigs outside of WWE. Ranallo was recently hired by Bellator MMA, and he will be calling the huge boxing match between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Conor McGregor this August. Ranallo confirmed on Twitter that he is going to be making his NXT announcing debut at the very next set of tapings, and ProWrestlingSheet reported that he will be replacing Tom Phillips at the booth. We should be hearing his voice again on the WWE Network very soon.
Mauro Ranallo could possibly be announcing for NXT for the remainder of his contract, it doesn’t look like he’ll be rejoining the main roster announce teams. Although, he has denied the reports of JBL bullying him in the past, so anything is possible. The push to have Ranallo stay with WWE was likely a move made by Triple H, he is said to be a big fan of Mauro’s work. Mauro Ranallo is considered to be a breath of fresh air at the announcer’s table by most fans, and NXT will definitely benefit by having him call the action, and especially those Takeover shows. NXT tapings will commence this Friday night, expect to see Ranallo make his triumphant return right there and then at Full Sail.
