Rockstar Working on Fix for Red Dead Redemption 2 Camp Glitch

Rockstar is currently working to fix a known glitch in Red Dead Redemption 2 that’s causing certain companions to disappear from camp during the main story’s early chapters. While players who’ve been affected by the glitch will have to wait for the official fix, the developer has revealed a temporary workaround for players who’ve yet to progress past Chapter 2.

Mild spoilers for Red Dead Redemption 2 follow.

The glitch, which has been the topic of several popular Reddit threads, sees Sadie Adler, Jack Marston, John Marston, and Abigail Roberts disappear from camp for seemingly no reason. However, according to Rockstar Support, the glitch is caused by using the Retry Checkpoint feature during Chapter 2’s Polite Society, Valentine Style mission.

If a checkpoint is reloaded after failing the mission, the four aforementioned characters “will only appear in camp when they have missions for you to complete.” For those who’ve yet to attempt Polite Society, Valentine Style, here’s the official workaround from Rockstar:

While players will miss out on certain side conversations, Rockstar says the glitch has no impact on actual mission progress and the companions should reappear at the beginning of Chapter 4.

The developer notes a permanent fix is in the works and will be included in a future patch, though it didn’t provide a timeframe for the update.

Despite the small hiccup, Red Dead Redemption 2 has been a massive success for Rockstar. The open-world western sold through $725 million USD worth of copies in its first three days, making it the biggest opening weekend in entertainment history.
