LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association has announced the 2018 NFCA Division II All-Region teams. This year’s squads are comprised of 207 student-athletes from 120 programs.
The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association’s eight regions with first and second team selections. NFCA member coaches from each respective region voted on the teams, and all the honorees now become eligible for selection to the 2018 NFCA Division II All-America squads.
2018 DII All-Region
The top two teams in the NFCA Top 25 Coaches Poll, North Georgia and Chico State, led the way with five honorees each. The NightHawks (56-2), out of the Southeast Region, garnered two first-team honors, while the West Region’s Wildcats (50-3) had three first-teamers. Eighth-ranked Southern Arkansas (Central) topped all programs with four first-team nods.
Joining Chico State with three first-team distinctions were RV West Chester (Atlantic), No. 9 Grand Valley State (Midwest), No. 3 Colorado Mesa (South Central), No. 23 West Virginia Wesleyan (Atlantic) and RV Saint Anselm (East). The first three programs finished with four overall selections, along with Southern Arkansas, No. 5 Winona State (Central), No. 24 Adelphi (East), No. 25 Minnesota Duluth (Central), No. 16 University of Alabama in Huntsville (South), No. 6 Angelo State (South Central), No. 10 West Texas A&M (South Central) and No. 21 UC San Diego (West).
The Gulf South Conference had 11 programs earn All-Region honors with the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference nipping on its heels with 10. The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, Sunshine State Conference, Northeast-10 Conference, Great Lakes Valley Conference and South Atlantic Conference were represented by seven schools.
The 2018 NFCA Division II All-American teams will be announced on Wednesday, May 23 at the NCAA Division II National Championship Banquet in Salem, Va.
