How Donald Trump’s whirlwind tour left Europe’s capitals feeling bruised and battered

And relax. Put away the baby blimp, take down the US flags. Donald Trump’s week-long romp around Europe is over. 

There were fireworks in Brussels, a bombshell in Britain and a blossoming new relationship in Helsinki’s Presidential Palace. 

With the US president safely ensconced back in the Oval Office, it is time to try and make sense of this news-packed seven days. 

As ever with Mr Trump, the same challenges are there in trying to draw together the threads of his actions.

The contradictory rhetoric, swerving from outright criticism of a world leader one moment to praise for their ‘great relationship’ the next.
