Last year, the creators of both the Guitar Hero and Rock Band franchises, Harmonix Music Systems, got together with legendary toy maker Hasbro to release its latest invention – DropMix. Well, DropMix Music Gaming System, to use its full name.
DropMix is a unique rhythm-based board game that uses NFC cards to let players competitively or cooperatively create music built from samples of existing songs. It’s something that’s a lot easier to understand once you see it in action rather than having it described to you, honestly, but imagine being able to build a song that uses the drum track from It’s Tricky, the synth from The Final Countdown, the vocals from Ms. Jackson and the infectious horn section from Cake’s Short Skirt/Long Jacket. Then imagine being able to change these parts at will to your heart’s content.
If any of that sounds like something you’d like to try, you can pick up a copy of the game cheaper than ever right now. GAME is offering the UK’s first ever price cut on DropMix, bringing the price down to £74.99 from its original £109.99 for a limited time.
This is just a couple of weeks after the US saw its first DropMix price cut, too, when Amazon US offered the game up for $64.99. GAME’s discount is so far unmatched by Amazon UK, at the time of writing, where the game remains at £110+.
For what it’s worth, I bought and imported a copy of DropMix a few weeks ago and when it arrived in the Eurogamer offices, more than a few of us were captivated by the game’s freestyle mode and managed to lose several hours to just mixing, matching and messing around creating various different musical monstrosities. Let me tell you, the card that contains the vocals from Len’s ‘Steal My Sunshine’ is an essential.
