World Cup of Softball X Kicks Off June 29 In Irvine, Calif.

Irvine, Calif. – Eight international softball teams from seven different countries have arrived in Irvine, Calif. for the World Cup of Softball X the Amateur Softball Association (ASA)/USA Softball announced on Monday.  The action kicks off today at 9 a.m. (PDT) as Argentina takes on the Puerto Rico and continues through Sunday, July 5.  Participating countries are Argentina, Canada, Japan, Mexico, Puerto Rico, the USA Softball Junior Women’s National Team, the USA Softball Women’s National Team, and Venezuela.

The USA Junior Women will take open play at 4:30 p.m. (PDT) against Argentina while the Women’s National Team will face Mexico at 7 p.m. (PDT).   Following their opening game of the tournament, both USA teams will play to play six other pool-play games with the finals to be played on Sunday, July 5.  Placement into the Sundayfinals will be determined based off round-robin action.

The World Cup of Softball X marks the first international event of the 2015 season for both the Women’s National Team (WNT) and Junior Women’s National Team(JWNT).  For the WNT, the World Cup is one of three international events in 2015.  Following the World Cup of Softball, Team USA will travel internationally to compete in the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto, Ontario, Canada July 15-26 and will then head to Japan August 2-10.  For the JWNT, the World Cup will give the team their first international competition before taking on the world at the WBSC Junior Women’s World Championship (JWWC), August 9-15 in Oklahoma City, Okla. at the ASA Hall of Fame Complex.
