Le Parisien are reporting that the French Football Federation (FFF) will receive just a letter of warning, rather than a fine, for Kylian Mbappé’s (23) media silence during the World Cup.
Despite being awarded man of the match twice during the group stage of the tournament in Qatar, Paris Saint-Germain forward Mbappé hasn’t once faced the media and hasn’t appeared in the pre-match or post-match press conferences like his manager, Didier Deschamps. and his teammates.
Mbappé finally spoke to the media for the first time in the tournament after receiving the man of the match award in France’s Round of 16 tie against Poland, during which he netted twice to set up a quarter-final encounter against England. The PSG player explained his reticence towards media duties, stating that it wasn’t a sleight against “people or journalists” but that he simply wished to “concentrate on the competition” and to do that, he needed “not to expend energy on other things.”
However, for his silence, there was the chance that the FFF would be fined €10,000 by FIFA, the organisers of the competition. Mbappé said that should this happen, he would be happy to pay the fine as “the FFF shouldn’t be punished for a personal choice.”
However, according to Le Parisien, the FFF will not be handed a fine and the organisation has only received a letter of warning from FIFA.
