Corentin Tolisso ruled out of World Cup 2022 with an injury

Former World Cup winner with France in 2018, Corentin Tolisso knew his World Cup dream was over as he used his shirt to cover his face and tears after hurting his thigh in the game against Rennes on Sunday.

A report from L’Équipe suggests that Corentin Tolisso had been carrying a knock since the start of the season. Sunday’s game against Rennes was the former Bayern Munich midfielder’s 10th appearance for Lyon in the Ligue 1 2022/23 campaign and perhaps his last one in the months to come.

In the second minute of the first-half added time, Tolisso took a slam on his hamstring in his left thigh and went down. It was as if he was in unbearable pain. He immediately signalled to the technical area and told the medical staff that he could not carry on like that. The 28-year-old, who has 28 senior appearances for France, got replaced by Jeff Reine-Adelaide just before the halftime whistle.

It is understood that the slim chance that Tolisso had of making the World Cup squad for France has now faded away. And he will probably not be back before the end of the World Cup. Speaking about the situation following the 3-2 defeat to Rennes, the newly-hired OL manager Laurent Blanc said, “Losing Corentin is my other big regret of the day.”
