“His actions today are consistent with his life-long work as a civil rights leader and community organizer, including his efforts to steer passage of the Maryland Dream Act,” spokesperson Kevin Harris told the news affiliate.

Jealous, a former president of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), announced his bid for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination in May.

About 30 protesters were arrested Tuesday outside of the White House, including Rep. Luis Gutiérrez (D-Ill.).
