Arsenal battle clubs ‘across Europe’ for soon-to-be free agent; ‘scouts take note’ of £37m star

Arsenal are reportedly among clubs “across Europe” in the race to sign Eintracht Frankfurt defender Evan Ndicka ahead of the end of his contract in 2023.

The 23-year-old already has a lot of experience in the senior ranks. He has played 157 times for the Bundesliga side since the start of the 2018/19 campaign.

Ndicka enjoyed a breakout season in 2021/22 as he helped Frankfurt win the Europa League and he was named in the Bundesliga Team of the Season.

Frankfurt managed to keep hold of their young defender in the summer but it is looking increasingly likely that he will move on in the coming months.

Tottenham Hotspur were linked with him during the summer transfer window and Arsenal are understood to be in the running as well. This is according to CBS journalist Ben Jacobs.

Clubs are eyeing up a bargain as the centre-back is due to be out of contract at the end of this season. So a cut-price deal in January or a free transfer next summer is on the cards.

Jacobs has noted that clubs “all across Europe” are keen on Ndicka but Arsenal have “done their legwork” to secure his services.

“Arsenal like the player. They’ve certainly done their legwork and their due diligence and their scouting on him,” Jacobs told GiveMeSport.

“There’s a lot of interest in the player, not just from the Premier League but from all across Europe as well.”

Arsenal finishing in the Champions League will be key as they attempt to sign Ndicka, and that is also the case with Cody Gakpo.

The Dutch winger was linked with the likes of Man Utd and Leeds United in the summer but he remains a PSV player for now.

Gakpo has not let the disappointment of not getting a move get him down as he has been sensational for PSV this season. He has 13 goals and 13 assists in just 20 outings across all competitions.

He remains on the agenda for Man Utd but Arsenal are also known to be admirers of him.

The Gunners got to watch Gakpo close up on Thursday as they faced PSV in the group stages of the Europa League. He got an assist as PSV ran out deserving 2-0 winners.

It was suggested in the summer that he is valued at £37m. His asking price may have risen given his form and Pete O’Rourke has now confirmed that Arsenal’s scouts are “taking note of him”.

“He has definitely showcased his talents throughout the season for PSV in the Eredivisie, as well as the Europa League,” O’Rourke told GiveMeSport.

“I don’t think his performance last week will have put anybody else off, but I’m sure there will be a lot of scouts taking note of him and watching him.

“They will be interested to see how he gets on against Arsenal in the return leg in the Netherlands.”
